China's SARFT Prohibits Non-CMMB Mobile TV Trials

In a recent official notice, China's SARFT (State Administration of Radio Film and TV) repeated prohibitions on unauthorized mobile TV trials based on non-CMMB (China's Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting) standards, such as T-DMB, DVB-H, and MediaFLO. SARFT will seek to rectify any such efforts in the future. The CMMB system was developed by SARFT's own Academy of Broadcasting Science, and is slated for trial runs in the second quarter of 2007, followed by a nationwide commercial launch in 2008, according to SARFT's timetable.
